Book: Cannibalism, Blood Drinking & High-Adept Satanism (2019)

Cannibalism, Blood Drinking & High-Adept SatanismI discovered this book while researching a novel that I am currently working on. It involves secret societies and I wanted to know more about how they operate before attempting to write about them. Like most people, I have no idea whether the events described in this book actually took place. The author even acknowledges as much himself, but encourages the reader to approach the subject with an open mind. That is very sound advice given the dark and graphic nature of the subject matter. Introducing my first book!

Of Flesh & Blood coverI have been a fan of Gothic horror for as long as I can remember. Old Hammer horror films initially and more recently nineteenth century stories, so when I started to experiment with fiction, it came as no surprise to me that I ended up writing my own.

Of Flesh & Blood is a Gothic horror novella that tells the story of a Romanian countess who settles in the small village of Bramley, West Yorkshire in the early twentieth century. The story is heavily influenced by Dracula and the 1932 film The Vampyr. It is the first in a series of stories following the adventures of Victorian/Edwardian gentleman turned reluctant paranormal investigator Marcus Worthington. He visits the village of Bramley on business and ends up being confronted by a beautiful and deadly vampire.

If you like all things creepy and Gothic, you can buy now on Amazon. There is a very low-priced Kindle edition and for the more patient and discerning reader, a 65-page paperback edition. I appreciate any and all support I get from this project. It has given me a break from my teaching career and musical activity. As much as I love making music, it requires a lot of team effort and logistics. What’s great about writing is I can do anything I want and work from home at my own pace without having to compromise.

I hope you enjoy reading Of Flesh & Blood as much as I did writing it.

Black-Sabbath-50 Years

Review: Home of Metal: Black Sabbath 50 Years Exhibition

When it comes to Heavy metal music, there is one iconic band that springs to mind – Black Sabbath. Heavy, doom-laden songs powered by Tony Iommi’s signature guitar riffs, Geezer Butler’s powerful and technically proficient bass lines and the relentless battery of Bill Ward’s jazz-influenced drumming. Add the unique vocals of John ‘Ozzy’ Osbourne and you have the recipe for the most influential band in heavy music history. A special exhibition is being held at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to celebrate fifty years of the band’s existence. I was lucky enough to be able to go and check it out. (more…)

Album: Immolation – Atonement (2017)

immolation-atonementImmolation have been part of the US death metal scene for over thirty years now. Theirs is a name that I heard mentioned a lot back in the 1990’s but for one reason or another, never really listened to.

If you’re anything like me, death metal will have become something of a blurry memory of days gone by. It’s fair to say that the music scene has moved on, but the genre lives on (or should that be remains undead?) and there are still some die-hard bands out there producing very high quality music. Album: CARDINAL’S FOLLY – Holocaust of Ecstasy & Freedom

“You can only die once. After that, nothing and nobody can harm you.”

Cardinal’s Folly are a relatively new band to me, despite being active in the underground doom metal scene since 2007 (the band actually formed in 2004 as The Coven changing their name to Cardinal’s Folly in 2007). (more…)

Film: The Devils (1971)

The Devils dvdThe Devils is not a film for everyone.”

Ken Russell’s 1971 masterpiece The Devils mixes the avante garde with the blasphemous, creating an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Censored and widely banned since it’s release, the full, uncut version of the film, which includes an infamous scene involving a crucifix (known as the “rape of Christ” scene) and several other salacious scenes, has never been made available to the public. This DVD version contains as much of the film as Warner Bros. will currently allow to be released and is as good a version as I have ever seen.

Doom-rock legend Wino has put together a new line up of his classic band The Obsessed, with Spirit Caravan bassist Dave Sherman and drummer Brian Costantino. The band have signed to Relapse Records and are currently touring the USA.

They have released this new demo track as a teaser of what’s to come. I think we’re in for a treat when the finished article arrives!
